Define Camera Obscura - adarkeneddevices that capturesimagesthroughanaperture and received through natural sunlight on an opposite surface. Explain the steps to create, expose and process a pinhole camera image:
Paint the inside of an altoid container black
Drill a hole in the cover of the tin with a small hand drill
Cut a small square of a coke can
Use a small needle to make a hole in the coke can
Tape the coke can with black electrical tape; make sure the hole of the altoids containers matches up with that of the coke can.
Place the light sensitive paper in the camera (tape it down with masking tape) cover the hole with electrical tape
Tape around the box with electrical tape to keep the light out
How did you create a shutter and aperture on your pinhole camera body? We created the shutter and aperture for the pinhole camera by poking a small hole into a small sheet of metal with a fine point needle. What was the focal length of the cameras? 21.28mm Where did you place your camera and what was your exposure time? I placed my camera on the bleachers facing the track. It was at an angle so the track went diagonal across the frame. The exposure time was 7 days. What was the light source for the exposure? The light source was natural sunlight.
After taking down your camera and seeing the results, how did the image appear on the light sensitive paper? Explain the steps you took to "process" your pinhole negative with the scanner and Photoshop. When we took our cameras down our pictures were inverted so we had to scan it on to the computer to be able to fix it. After we scanned it we inverted it and fixed the levels to make the picture clearer through Photoshop.
Finally, what surprised you about your results? If you could re-do the process, what would you do differently to change your results? What surprised me about the pinhole cameras was how far away the subjects looked. In my picture, the school in the background looks so far away when in reality its not that far away.
Where did you place the pinhole camera outside of school?I placed my pinhole in one of the window in my porch facing my garage. How many days did you leave the camera out? 17 days How did light, weather, location and time impact your results? My camera was not affected by weather or light but it does feature a line which is the track of the sun. Location though did have an affect my camera the subject of my garage was very far away and the screen of the window was in the bottom of the right corner. What changes (if any) did you make to modify your camera before taking the second image? If i could change anything about my camera it would be to move it closer to the garage. Compare your out of school pinhole image to your first in school image: What is similar and different about the images? My photos are similar because they both have the track of the sun and the subject looks really far away when they are not. They are different because the second photo is more developed because it had a longer exposure. What is better or worse about the results of either image? The second image was out longer so it has a longer exposure which made the subject develop more than the first one, that made it better than the first one.
